6 September 2007 - "Presence: Grow Your Glow" with Vivienne Mee
“Great leaders move us. They ignite our passion and inspire the best in us. Great leadership works through the emotions”
Daniel Goleman – The New Leaders
Everyone has presence to varying degrees but those who consciously use their presence are like people magnets. They have a skill at transmitting emotions and people naturally gravitate towards them.
This skill can be learned. Great actors have presence. They have an ability to express emotions in such a way that the audience feels connected to them. And so do great leaders!
Why Presence is important…
…in the change process
Having a great strategy isn’t enough. To make change last, leaders need to use their presence to inspire the cultural changes needed to make the strategy a success.
…in customer facing roles
“Poor morale in the frontline Customer Service predicts high staff turnover and declining customer satisfaction, which can be felt three years later”.
The people who are in contact with your customers should be inspirational. They need to be people magnets who inspire the customer with their belief in their product and organisation.
…for outstanding performance
Presence is the missing degree in performance. It’s the X factor, the key ingredient that transforms good performance into great performance.
“Presence is the energy that you create and the feeling you leave behind. It is something that is unique and differentiates people from one another”
Vivienne Mee
To Develop Your Presence You Need to:
• Raise your self-awareness
• Explore your ‘hidden’ self
• Listen and trust your intuition
• Connect with people who inspire you
• Learn to express yourself fully
You were born present, with an innate awareness of yourself and your connection to the environment. Over time you switch this off due to conditioning and the need to fit in.
In this evening taster, emotional intelligence consultant and presence specialist Vivienne Mee will be sharing some secrets of how to develop your presence.
“Vivienne is inspiring. She radiated a presence which I will be trying to master”
Louise Baron, Lancashire County Council
About Vivienne Mee
Manchester-born Vivienne started her career for George Davis at Next, the retail master behind ‘George’ and ‘Per Una’ clothing brands, before embarking on a series of extensive studies into Business, Finance, Human and Organisational Development, Personal Transformation, Values and Executive Coaching.
At just 21, Vivienne subsequently became one of the youngest Police trainers and Head of Civilian Training for the Greater Manchester Police. In 1994, Vivienne was enlisted by Government agencies to lead a special project to bring about the first standards of performance into Local Government.
Three years later, Vivienne Mee Associates (VMA) was established, winning a contact to support Jack Welch’s GE global culture change in its first year.
Since then she has assisted a considerable number of ‘blue chip’ organisations in the private sector to bring about change. Working with CEO’s and Senior Management has led to the establishment of a unique reputation within the fields of Vision, Leadership and Transformation.
Today Vivienne is the ‘bleeding edge’ practitioner of Transformation and Presence within both public and private sector organisations due to her ability to develop a Vision for an organisation and show how Transformation can be successfully implemented.
In June 2007 Vivienne turned to the stage creating a One Woman show that she wrote, produced and performed at a theatre in Central Manchester. Her vision was to combine her knowledge of transformation with theatrical presence to take her audience on a journey to their authentic self.
